Extending Children's Play

Think of an area of play that is popular with the children' in your care. In what ways could you extend that play to help them explore in more depth?

  1. The reading area in the most popular in the center i work at.To extend the time in this area i would continue to add new and exciting ideas i feel the children will love. A lot of them are into nick jr charcters. So i would draw more charcter and book with the charcter in it.

  2. The Thomas the Train Track is a popular area in our center. The kids love to build the track and run the trains on them. I would like to use Lincoln Logs and maybe build small towns and buildings inside the train tracks. Maybe find something to make a bridge for the trains to go over and look down at the towns. 3. The playground is a popular area. Many things to extend the play would be to purchase new equipment such as a new play house. This would allow the kids to use their imagination. Also if we purchase new sports balls we could encourage the kids to play soccer or a game of kickball. We could also extend the play if we let the kids have a treasure hunt. We could tell the kids items to find and have the kids find them and draw a picture of that item.

  4. The climbing area is a very popular area with the children where I work. I thought if we could get some big soft foam blocks we could have the children build some more things to climb on and explore with.

  5. The block area is popular in our center. One way to extend the play is to add various items to use with the blocks. For instance, the dinosaurs from another area or the dolls from the dollhouse. The children love the new additions and they enjoy creating homes for these objects.
